Ingredients
- 1 whole turkey - we like 20 lb birds
- celery stalks
- garlic cloves
- onion
- 4 chicken bouillon cubes
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- thaw turkey (if kept frozen) for 3-4 days in fridge in casserole dish (keep packaging on)
- preheat oven to 350
- remove neck, scrape away any still frozen globs of ice, then remove bag of giblets by lifting skin from other end
- rinse turkey in sink
- in a large roaster, add approx 2“ water
- throw in a few cut up celery stalks, onion, and 4 chicken bouillon cubes
- stuff turkey with some onion and garlic cloves
- rub butter all over outside of turkey, then place in roaster
- heavily season with salt and pepper
- bake 4 to 6 hours, basting every hour
- as you baste you will likely need to remove broth and reserve it for noodles and gravy
- turkey should be done when breast temp is around 180-190 degrees and legs easily twist off
