Turkey

  • 1 whole turkey - we like 20 lb birds :-)
  • celery stalks
  • garlic cloves
  • onion
  • 4 chicken bouillon cubes
  • salt and pepper
  1. thaw turkey (if kept frozen) for 3-4 days in fridge in casserole dish (keep packaging on)
  2. preheat oven to 350
  3. remove neck, scrape away any still frozen globs of ice, then remove bag of giblets by lifting skin from other end
  4. rinse turkey in sink
  5. in a large roaster, add approx 2“ water
  6. throw in a few cut up celery stalks, onion, and 4 chicken bouillon cubes
  7. stuff turkey with some onion and garlic cloves
  8. rub butter all over outside of turkey, then place in roaster
  9. heavily season with salt and pepper
  10. bake 4 to 6 hours, basting every hour
  11. as you baste you will likely need to remove broth and reserve it for noodles and gravy
  12. turkey should be done when breast temp is around 180-190 degrees and legs easily twist off
