• first install libpng, libjpeg, freetype2, fontconfig
• download gd source from: http://www.libgd.org

./configure --prefix=/usr/local --with-png=/usr/local --with-freetype=/usr/local --with-fontconfig=/usr/local --with-jpeg=/usr/local

make

sudo make install
