Given By: Dotty/Cherlene
Preparation Time: 2.5 hrs
Serving Size: 12

Gobs

  • 4 cups flour FIXME - next time try 5 cups
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 6 Tbsp cocoa
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 10 Tbsp butter, melted

Icing custard (first part)

  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 2 Tbsp corn starch

Icing (second part)

  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Start the icing base…mix the milk and corn starch and cook over low heat, stirring constantly with a spatula until thickened. Set aside to cool completely.

Preheat oven to 350. Mix gob ingredients well. Scoop desired size and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for approx 15 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean, then allow to cool.

Cream crisco, butter & sugar together for 10 minutes. Combine shortening mixture and custard together and salt & vanilla. Best to wait 10 minutes or longer until fluffy and nice.

Lift tops and bottoms of gobs and icing as thick as desired. This icing recipe can also be used for doughnut filling.
