Serving Size: | 24 |
Ingredients
- 2-1/4 cups warm water
- 1 pack instant rapid rise yeast
- 1 Tbsp morton table salt
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup butter flavored crisco shortening
- 6+ cups flour
Instructions
Heat water in microwave for 30 seconds, then add water and yeast to mixer bowl and stir. Let stand 10 minutes. Attach bread hook to mixer. Add salt, sugar, shortening, and 1 cup of flour to mixer bowl and start on low. Add 1 cup at a time, waiting a minute between each, as you work the sides into the dough with a spatula. Add as much flour as it needs to clean the dough from the bowl all the way down to the bottom. Spread some flour on the counter, pull the dough out by hand and continue to knead for 3 to 5 minutes, then form a ball. Spray non-stick cooking spray in the mixer bowl and place the dough back in, covering with a wet paper towel.
Wait until the dough at least doubles, about 1.5 hours later. Place the dough on the counter again and squeeze out all the air bubbles, then knead a few more times. Cut into as many rolls as you want, or loaves. Spray your pan with non-stick cooking spray, form dough by pressing underneath and making the top smooth, and wait another 1.5 to 2 hours as the dough raises again. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, optionally turning the pan around at 15 minutes. When done, pierce the top of each roll once or twice with a fork, then rub butter on top, cover with a paper towel, and place on a rack until cool.
