rxvt

By default, cygwin uses windows cmd.exe for the terminal. This doesn't allow you to resize, copy and paste is cumbersome, etc… A better option is to install the rxvt package.

Create this file in your Cygwin install location, and use it to start rxvt. Tweak the colors as you wish.

man pages were showing odd characters. Add this to your .profile to fix it:

You can further refine your coloring with LS_COLORS in your .profile file:
